About the Role
We are looking to fill one ongoing and one temporary Senior Advisor, Governance, position (until April 2026) within the Governance Team. These roles sit within the Cabinet and Governance Branch, part of the Office of General Counsel in The Cabinet Office.
As our new Senior Advisor, Governance, you will play a key role in leading and enhancing the Department's corporate governance functions. Reporting to the Associate Director, Governance, you will be responsible for developing and implementing governance frameworks, overseeing risk management strategies, and coordinating internal audit processes. You will also lead strategic projects aimed at improving business systems, embedding a proactive governance culture, and supporting informed executive decision-making through effective policy and reporting mechanisms.
In this role, you will work closely with senior executives across the Department and wider NSW Government to ensure consistent application of governance practices. You will provide expert advice, manage performance reporting, deliver presentations and training, and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

We're Looking For
- Governance Expertise: Experience developing, leading and promoting corporate governance, internal audit and risk management systems aligned to public sector best practice
- Analytical Thinking: Skilled in providing accurate and timely advice on governance systems, including interpreting legislation and assessing operational risks
- Team Leadership: Experience in guiding team performance, mentoring staff, and ensuring delivery of objectives in a dynamic environment
- Project and Policy Leadership: Ability to manage and implement complex governance projects, reviews, and frameworks across government agencies
- Stakeholder Engagement: Proven ability to build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders across the public sector to support governance and policy delivery
- Strategic Communication: High-level written and verbal communication skills, including delivering briefings, reports and training to senior audiences.
