Established in 2018, Arthur is a contemporary Australian restaurant located in a beautifully restored Victorian-era terrace in Surry Hills. Our ever-evolving menu highlights the best of each season’s local produce, with dishes such as kangaroo tartare with pickled kohlrabi and caramelised onions, Moreton Bay bug with spigarello and pepperberry, and abalone with wild mushrooms and fermented cabbage.

The Opportunity
We are offering a hybrid role ideal for someone looking to grow in both restaurant leadership and wine expertise. As Assistant Restaurant Manager / Junior Sommelier, you'll support the daily operations of the dining room while working closely with our restaurant manager/sommelier to build your knowledge of our carefully curated wine list and its connection to the menu. This development-focused position offers a clear path for progression, whether your interests lie in venue management, wine, or both.
What the Role Offers
Wine and Beverage Knowledge
You will have the opportunity to expand your understanding of wines, producers, and pairing principles. Working closely with our beverage team, you will support wine service, help maintain the wine list, and contribute to training initiatives.
Leadership in Guest Experience
You will help lead the dining room and guide guests through memorable experiences that reflect the spirit of our food and wine philosophy. Your role will include floor leadership and supporting the team in delivering attentive and informed service.
Hands-On Learning
You will gain experience across the full spectrum of restaurant operations, from staff training and inventory to service strategy and guest engagement. As part of a small and committed team, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to the culture and direction of the restaurant.
Growth and Progression
There is strong potential to grow into a more senior leadership or sommelier role. We are committed to promoting from within and offer support for those who demonstrate initiative, professionalism, and passion.
About You
Passionate and committed to hospitality, with some prior experience in a leadership role
A strong communicator and team player - must be able to work as part of a small and supportive team
Curious, eager to learn, and ready to take initiative
Comfortable in a leadership role during service
