QBuild is a commercialised business unit of the Queensland Government. It has been Queensland Government's builder for over 160 years, playing an important role in communities across the state by building and maintaining government-owned assets such as schools, social housing, police stations and correctional and health facilities.

About the role

You will play a pivotal role in the team supporting QBuild's ambition to strengthen Queensland's building and construction industry. Use your exceptional leadership skills to supervise staff while overseeing and coordinating the delivery of service through various minor works, construction, and maintenance programs. You will also look after a suite of tasks associated with program development, cost planning, tendering, estimating, contract administration and program management of new construction works.

Duties and skills involved:

  • Maintain sound relationships with clients and act as the interface with clients on major projects.
  • Prepare and effectively manage the maintenance, minor works and construction program sales budgets in line with the Queensland Government's Building Policy Framework.
  • Achieve operational objectives through effective planning and utilisation of resources, including the ability to successfully manage a commercially oriented organisation in the Building Construction and Maintenance Industry, or similar, within the Public Sector.
  • Manage, coordinate and integrate a workforce of office and field staff involved in product development, product delivery and client liaison activities.
  • Plan and resolve resourcing issues and ensure the appropriate allocation and management of resources within each of the operational areas to achieve a consistently high level of quality in the delivery of building services and project management with budgetary, resource and time constraints.
  • Manage and implement change and create effective working relationships through leading and developing individuals and teams.
  • Proactively manage the work performance and personal conduct of your staff.

Preferred skills and experience:

  • Thorough knowledge of the building and construction industry, including quality assurance, building project management and contract administration.
  • Experience and knowledge in leading and managing a team of supervisors including a team consisting of multiple forepersons and field staff.
  • Trade background highly regarded.
