Alike WA is the leading voice and advocate for peer support groups across Western Australia.

As a peak body organisation, we empower, represent, and support a vibrant network of peer-led groups throughout the State, fostering healthy, connected communities. Peer support groups bring together individuals who share a common condition or experience to offer emotional and practical support to one another. By sharing lived experiences, peer support enhances health and wellbeing, promotes community inclusion, and highlights the power of mutual support. No two experiences are the same, but it’s through what is shared, what is alike, that we find comfort in connection.

About the Role

We’re looking for an Engagement Officer, with strong experience in training and facilitation, to help empower and build the capability of WA community volunteers and leaders in the peer support group sector. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of NFP governance and a genuine interest in helping groups thrive. You will be skilled at developing and delivering learning content that caters to a wide range of audiences, from emerging grassroots groups to well-established incorporated organisations. This varied role will see you engaging with a diverse range of groups and communities, working closely with them to identify and meet their training and development needs.

A key project you will be working on is the development of a new online learning management system for the Rare, Genetic, and Undiagnosed Conditions (RGU) Sector. This includes converting existing in-person workshop materials into interactive digital formats, and creating fresh online resources and training content that empower individuals and group leaders to build their skills, confidence, and community connections.

If you’re excited about making a real impact in the community and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, this is the role for you. You’ll be joining a small but passionate team where collaboration is key. We’re looking for someone who’s proactive, constantly identifying new opportunities and ideas to enhance our training offerings. You’ll be able to take direction and work alongside the team, while also confidently leading your own projects with initiative and independence.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and Facilitate Workshops: Create and deliver workshops focused on group governance and management to empower community leaders.

Coordinate External Facilitators: Source and liaise with external trainers to deliver specialised training sessions and information seminars.

Create Resources and Templates: Develop practical resources, templates, and guidelines for group governance and management.

Online Training Development: Design and develop engaging online courses and materials that meet the diverse needs of community groups.

1:1 Support for Group Leaders: Provide individualised support to group leaders on unique challenges related to group development and management.

Identify Training Opportunities: Continuously assess sector needs and identify opportunities for new training topics and resources.

Engage with Sector Leaders: Collaborate with community sector leaders to ensure that all training and resources are evidence-based, sector-informed, and accessible.

Regional Engagement: Conduct occasional regional outreach trips to deliver training and development to group leaders based in regional WA.

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

A formal qualification in Community Services, Training and Development, Health Promotion, or a related field and/or proven experience in a training and development role.

Strong understanding of Not-for-Profit (NFP) Governance.

Excellent presentation and facilitation skills.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Strong digital capability.

Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.

In-depth knowledge of the community services sector.

Ability to work effectively with diverse and vulnerable populations.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

Experience working with learning management systems and creating online learning content.

Previous experience working within the community services sector.

Lived experience and/or background in peer support.

The successful candidate will also need a current WA Drivers Licence and personal vehicle available for work purposes and will need to have a police clearance processed prior to commencing in the role (police clearance costs will be covered by Alike WA).

Why Join Us?
This is an exciting opportunity to make a tangible impact in the community services sector while enhancing your career in training and development. If you’re ready to contribute to building stronger communities and helping peer support group leaders thrive, we’d love to hear from you. We provide a supportive, innovative and flexible work environment, professional development opportunities, a staff wellness program, and access to EAP.
