Our client is a mid-sized Australian manufacturing company headquartered in Abbotsford, Melbourne. They are seeking a State Sales Manager (VIC) to lead their Victorian sales operations and drive continued growth.
You don’t need to have managed a large team before – what’s important is your strong leadership potential, excellent presentation and communication skills, and commercial acumen. In this role, you’ll be fully supported by senior leadership (including ongoing mentorship and product training) to develop your skills and succeed.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute the sales strategy for the Victoria region, aligning with national business goals and growth objectives.
- Team Development: Lead, motivate, and mentor a small sales team (with potential to grow) to achieve and exceed sales targets, fostering a high-performance and collaborative culture.
- Business Growth: Identify and pursue new business opportunities and market segments to expand the company’s presence across Victoria.
- Client Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers, distributors, and partners, ensuring exceptional service and long-term partnership growth.
- Market Insight: Monitor market trends and competitor activity, providing insights and adapting strategies to keep the company ahead of the curve.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams (marketing, product development, operations) to ensure customer needs are met and to drive continuous improvement in offerings and service.
- Reporting & Presentation: Prepare and deliver sales reports, forecasts, and presentations to senior leadership, communicating progress, challenges, and opportunities clearly and confidently.

About You
- Experience & Track Record: Proven experience in B2B sales, account management or business development (ideally 5+ years), with a track record of meeting or exceeding targets. Experience in a mid-sized manufacturing or industrial environment is highly regarded (but not mandatory).
- Leadership Potential: Demonstrated leadership skills or potential – perhaps you’ve led a small team, projects, or mentored colleagues. You are confident taking initiative and can inspire others, even if you haven’t managed a large team yet.
- Communication Skills: Excellent communication and presentation abilities, able to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels (from on-the-ground teams to senior executives).
- Commercial Acumen: Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills. You can develop effective sales plans, understand market data/trends, and make sound commercial decisions to drive growth.
- Relationship Builder: A talent for building and nurturing client relationships. You understand customer needs and are adept at delivering solutions and value for clients.
- Adaptable & Collaborative: A humble, down-to-earth leader who leads by example and thrives in a collaborative environment. You value teamwork, embrace innovation, and are eager to learn. (Being new to our product range is fine – you’re excited to pick it up with the training we’ll provide.)
