Your day as a Budget Analyst
Your typical day-to-day work includes playing a critical support role in supporting annual budget processes and strong financial management across the public sector.
You will be undertaking quantitative analysis of budget trends, risks and pressures at a whole-of-government and government agency level. You will also be involved in projects and analysis using large data sets to support process improvement initiatives and improved insights for decision making as part of the delivery of the budget.
The Budget Management and Control team was recognised in the 2023 Treasury Awards for demonstrated exceptional performance and contribution to outcomes on a regular basis in the execution of their duties.
The team is now leading a new high-profile Treasury project to upgrade the State’s budget system, Prime, and deliver enhancements to budget processes and reporting to strengthen financial management. A key focus of this project is providing higher quality and more timely insights and analysis that drive impactful decisions. This will involve automating workflows, eliminating repetitive tasks and designing innovative dashboards to support decision making. This project will also support delivery of the Performance and Wellbeing Framework being developed to measure and track progress on key government reforms.

Achieve success as Budget Analyst
In this integral role there are a few things we would like for you to have to best support yourself and add value to the people of NSW.
You will be successful in this role if you have a good combination of:
● Qualifications in, finance, economics, data science, accounting or a related discipline.
● Strong quantitative skills with experienced in analysing and interpreting data.
● Experience solving problems using large financial datasets and applying modelling to provide insights and recommendations to decision makers.
● A good understanding of, or interest in, government, public policy, and budget management.
● Experience working collaboratively within teams and with stakeholders to devise solutions.
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
● Comfortable dealing with complexity and competing deadlines.
● Experience with tools and technologies such as: Excel, VBA Macros, Python, PowerQuery, PowerBI, DAX (Data Analysis Expressions), SQL, Snowflake, Oracle Hyperion, SmartView, Jira, and Prime viewed favourably.

Eligibility
