About the Role

This is an Ongoing role.The Senior Project Controls Analyst will work with the Project Controls Analyst under broad direction of the Manager Business Performance, in the day-to-day management and revenue, cost and overall management of numerous project types across the Department, with a primary focus on the Assets and Engineering (A&E) division. The project types are predominantly based around the provision of professional services under a variety of commercial agreements for internal and external clients.

Position Outcomes / Accountabilities

  • Strong Finance Operations - Demonstrated effective administration of the project sub ledgers to ensure project budgets and forecasts are maintained.
  • Trusted Advisor - Recognised as a trusted advisor, utilised project accounting experience and knowledge to provide insight and financial management advice to the project delivery teams.
  • Reporting - Assisted with the establishment of systems and processes to manage and report on project budgets and expenditure and any other project financial issues while ensuring compliance with DTP and other legislative requirements under the Financial Management Act (1994).
  • Improved Finance and Program Management Capability - Assist in identifying, developing and implementing project financial training for staff, to ensure alignment with project finance business rules.

Key Selection Criteria

The Department of Transport and Planning is seeking a skilled and adaptable professional to join our team as Senior Project Controls Analyst. This role requires expertise in financial management, data analysis, and stakeholder engagement to support key projects and decision-making processes.

You will be responsible for interpreting and analyzing project budget data, developing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with financial systems and controls. Your ability to assess environmental factors impacting project finances and provide informed recommendations will be essential.

Strong data literacy is required, including advanced Excel skills, data visualization, and statistical analysis. You will also need to navigate financial operations, ensuring processes and systems are efficient, reliable, and compliant.

Success in this role depends on business and commercial acumen, understanding how internal policies and procurement processes impact operations. You will work closely with stakeholders, fostering relationships, addressing concerns, and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.

Qualifications and Experience

Mandatory

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Commerce, Finance, Project Management or other relevant discipline
  • Experience working in a complex project accounting and procurement environment

Desirable

  • A background in Oracle Cloud with PFM Projects module would be highly desirable.
  • Experience working in the Engineering sector
  • Contract Management & Procurement experience
