Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a Scientific / Technical Officer to join Faculty Operations, Faculty of Health.

The Scientific / Technical Officer provides operational laboratory service expertise within a highly professional and agile technical team in support of the Faculty’s research endeavors. The role is responsible for the effective, safe and sustainable operation of a range of laboratory research facilities as well as specialist equipment, based at Kevin Grove. The role requires significant discipline specific knowledge in the area of biomedical sciences, including but not limited to cell and molecular biology, various omics disciplines and bioengineering. The role is responsible for delivering high quality research support to academics and students within relevant disciplines.

The Faculty of Health is led by the Executive Dean and the Executive Management Team comprising the Deputy Dean, Heads of Schools, and other senior faculty staff. The proximity of the Kelvin Grove campus to hospital facilities at Herston provides the faculty with a distinct competitive advantage and a renowned precinct that offers transformative education, aligned biomedical research and industry engagement..

What you need to succeed

  1. Education, training and/or relevant experience equivalent to completion of a Bachelor degree in biomedical sciences or related field; or an Associate Diploma level qualification with at least two years subsequent relevant work experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience, education, or training.
  2. Well-developed interpersonal skills including the ability to effectively connect and collaborate with colleagues and work in teams.
  3. Demonstrated ability to embrace and participate in change and to effectively organise and prioritise work in order to meet deadlines and competing priorities, without compromising quality in a technical environment.
  4. Well-developed problem solving skills including the ability to contribute to continuous improvement, and apply sound reasoning and judgement in the resolution of work issues.
  5. Demonstrated understanding of theoretical aspects and experience in the practical application of relevant scientific/technical techniques in biomedical sciences, including but not limited to cell and molecular biology, various omics disciplines and bioengineering, as well as the use of the specialised laboratory equipment associated with these techniques, where relevant.
  6. Demonstrated ability to accurately review and interpret instructions of a conceptual nature; to relate relevant knowledge to provide maintenance and repairs to equipment, and to produce technical reports, communications and documentation to a high standard.
