Make a meaningful impact with Square Pegs Dyslexia Support!

About Us
At Square Pegs Dyslexia Support, we’re a passionate and dynamic registered charity advocating for individuals with dyslexia across Tasmania. Our mission is simple yet powerful: to ensure every child, regardless of their learning differences, can enjoy learning and reach their full potential. Through a variety of services—educational programs, workshops, support groups, and community events—we empower children and their families to embrace their strengths and navigate the challenges of dyslexia.

We provide the support needed for their journey. We work closely with schools, educators, and other stakeholders to create a community where understanding and awareness of dyslexia thrives.

Our Values: Respect | Integrity | Inclusion | Courage | Action

Your Role
We’re seeking a capable, hands-on Executive Officer to work closely with our volunteer Board and shape the future of Square Pegs. As the driving force behind our operational success, you’ll play an integral part in supporting individuals with dyslexia and their families, while helping to guide the strategic direction of our charity.

Your role will include an exciting variety of tasks such as:

Governance and Board Support: Assist with document preparation, compliance, and administrative support to ensure smooth Board operations.

Event, Program, and Project Management: Plan and deliver meaningful programs and events—work with external providers and volunteers to make them a success.

Communication and Stakeholder Engagement: Lead effective communication with stakeholders, build strong relationships, and drive member engagement and growth.

Fundraising and Grant Writing: Help secure vital funding and resources through grant applications and fundraising initiatives.

Workshops and Education: Deliver presentations and support engagement activities to spread awareness and understanding of dyslexia.

You’ll be an all-arounder, wearing many hats, and will thrive in a collaborative environment where flexibility and initiative are key.

What We’re Looking for in You
To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

Skills and Abilities

Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building lasting relationships with colleagues, government agencies, stakeholders, and the broader community.

Analytical thinking with sound judgment to make informed decisions, solve problems, and manage risks.

Strong organisational skills to manage projects and deliver outputs within set timeframes and budgets.

High-level IT skills (especially Microsoft Office 365), along with proficiency in other necessary software.

An understanding of neurodiversity and the Tasmanian education landscape would be an advantage.

Personal Attributes

Passion for creating positive change and supporting people with dyslexia and other learning differences.

Flexibility to tackle a variety of tasks and projects.

Proactive and collaborative, with a can-do attitude—whether working independently or as part of a team.

A strong sense of integrity, honesty, and the ability to have fun along the way!

Qualifications

While relevant qualifications in administration, education, or communications are an advantage, they are not essential.

A demonstrated commitment to continuous professional development and learning.

Conditions

Location: Ideally based in Hobart, Tasmania, though negotiable. Hybrid role (work from home to start, moving into a physical presence).

Hours: Part-time (initially 25 hours per week); fixed-term contract until July 2028, with potential for extension subject to funding.

Salary and Benefits: $90,000–$97,344 per annum pro rata + 11.5% superannuation.

Some travel within Tasmania may be required.

Ready to Join Us?
If you’re excited about making a difference and believe you have the skills and passion to lead this vital role, we’d love to hear from you! To apply, please submit your resume and a brief cover letter outlining your interest and relevant experience. Don’t forget to include two referees.

Deadline for applications: Wednes day, 30 April 2025.

For more information, contact Kathryn on 0407 405 969 or email [email protected].

Please Note: A Working with Vulnerable People registration and a National Police Check are required for the successful candidate.
