Kalyan Youth Service Inc. is a not-for-profit organisation providing shelter, housing and life skills development and support for young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in Mackay and the surrounding region.
Reporting to the Management Committee, the Business Services and Development Manager provides strategic and operational leadership across Kalyan Youth Service’s corporate functions, including finance, property and asset management, ICT, compliance, and quality systems. The role contributes strategic insights to organisational planning, leads the implementation of business growth and expansion initiatives as approved by the Management Committee, and ensures the organisation meets its governance, reporting, and sustainability objectives.
Specialist/Lead Tasks:
• Lead staff recruitment and onboarding processes
• Assist or supervise other administrative staff
• Lead property and asset management including compliance with RTA and Community Housing policies, property inspections, repairs, maintenance, and upgrades
• Manage ICT and other workplace resourcing needs
• Monitor property management standards and ensure regular inspections are conducted
• Oversee executive support services
• Manage the service facilities
• Manage the business administration functions
• Oversee the financial and accounting functions
• Supervise and monitor income and expenditure for the service under the direction of the Treasurer and Management Committee
• Liaise with the Treasurer, bookkeeper, and auditor in relation to the service's financial procedures
• Prepare and submit CHAFR and other required reports to the Department of Housing and relevant funding bodies
• Lead the preparation and presentation of operational budgets and business development reports to the Management Committee and funding bodies
• Represent and actively promote the service at meetings, public forums, in the media and at other networking opportunities
• Develop relationships with government, funding bodies, and business/service expansion partners
• Research and recommend growth and funding opportunities
• Implement business growth and expansion initiatives as approved by the Management Committee
• Oversee continuous improvement of quality management systems, including policies, procedures, forms, and registers
• Design and implement feedback mechanisms, analyse service user, staff, and other stakeholder feedback, and report findings to the Management Committee
• Provide recommendations on effective management of user, staff, and other stakeholder feedback in alignment with the organisation’s purpose and values
• Implement Committee decisions
• Make decisions as per delegation level and liaise with the Management Committee Executive on other matters
General Tasks:
• Ensure effective use of databases and systems to maintain accurate and appropriate records and statistics (e.g. SHIP, QHIP, Microsoft SharePoint, OneDrive)
• Review internal and external data and trends to inform service planning and reporting
• Contribute strategic insights to organisational planning regarding opportunities for service expansion
• Work collaboratively to support a positive workplace culture and fulfilment of the organisation’s philosophy, vision, mission, and strategic goals
• Undertake professional development and training that is appropriate to the needs of the role and Kalyan Youth Service
• Ensure compliance with all relevant policies, procedures, agreements, and legislation
