The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries has a very long history in the Northern Territory supporting agricultural producers to grow their business and the industry. The department underpins the Territory’s reputation as a supplier of safe and quality agricultural produce through scientific research, strong biosecurity practices and compliance with animal welfare legislation.

The Department’s Livestock Industries Development team deliver a range of projects focussed on improving and optimising productivity, economics and development of the beef cattle industry.

As a Livestock Industries Engagement Officer, you will develop and implement extension programs and services designed to assist pastoralists in Central Australia to enhance their productivity, profitability, and sustainability. Located in Alice Springs, you coordinate field days and workshops, organise and implement adoption programs and evaluate and report on pastoral extension activities.

This involves, disseminating scientific knowledge and technology to support pastoralists with adopting new techniques, sourcing up-to-date information and conducting field research.

To be successful you require tertiary qualifications in Agriculture Science or equivalent, sound understanding of current pastoral practices and emerging issues, and the ability to consult and build partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders. Experience dealing with people from diverse cultures and a valid manual driver’s licence, or the ability to obtain is essential.

In return, you will receive a competitive salary, 12% superannuation, six weeks’ recreation and three weeks’ personal leave, an additional 3 days paid leave over the Christmas shutdown and up to 17.5% annual leave loading.
