The Administrative Review Tribunal (ART) is currently seeking applications for multiple Assistant Registrars to join the Case Management branch.

These full-time ongoing hybrid positions can be located in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Darwin, Hobart, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth. These positions are available primarily on an ongoing basis however non-ongoing can also be considered.

Remuneration: The annual salary range for the position is APS6 - $94,563 to $106,394 p.a., plus a generous employer superannuation contribution of 15.4%.

About the opportunity:

Reporting to the EL1 Deputy Registrar, Assistant Registrars work closely with other Registrars in the exercise of the ART's statutory powers and functions. As an Assistant Registrar you will undertake case management activities including giving directions, orders and decisions, undertaking Tribunal case events as required, and responding to enquiries from stakeholders.

The Registrars team is responsible for managing applications for review (cases) from lodgement through to finalisation, or readiness for hearing by Tribunal members. Registrars at various APS levels exercise functions or powers related to the management of cases as authorised by the President of the Tribunal or the ART Act.

About you:

To be successful you will have:

  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team in a culture of collaboration, and model standards of behaviour in line with APS Values, APS Employment Principles and APS Code of Conduct.
  • Highly developed communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex information and concepts clearly and adapt to the needs of different audiences.
  • Well-developed analytical and problem solving skills, including the ability to interpret and apply legislation within the context of issues, cases and processes.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with the capacity to maintain productive relationships with a variety of stakeholders and to work collaboratively to achieve outcomes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding, or the ability to quickly acquire knowledge and understanding, of the Tribunal’s legislative and policy context, particularly in relation to the delivery of case management services to diverse users.

Essential:

  • The Tribunal requires Australian Citizenship as a condition of engagement.
  • All employees are required to undertake an Australian Federal Police Check and a Health Assessment.
  • Security Clearance - have or be eligible to achieve a Baseline Security Clearance.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • A degree from a university, or an educational qualification of a similar standing, in the field of law, or
  • An educational qualification, or training and experience, related to dispute resolution, or
  • Experience related to one or more functions or powers of the Tribunal

The Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT) conducts independent merits review of administrative decisions made under Commonwealth laws. We review decisions made by Australian Government ministers, departments and agencies and, in limited circumstances, decisions made by state government and non-government bodies. We also review decisions made under Norfolk Island laws.

The AAT was established by the Administrative Appeals Tribunal Act 1975 and commenced operations on 1 July 1976.
