Working at the Shire of Carnarvon

At the Shire of Carnarvon, no two days look the same. From the river to the reef, we deliver projects and services that shape the lives of our residents, support local industry, and build a strong and connected community.

As part of the Office of the CEO, you’ll sit at the heart of local government leadership — supporting a dynamic CEO and Council who are passionate about good governance, community outcomes, and the future of the Gascoyne. This is a role for someone who thrives on purpose, connection, and challenge — where professionalism meets people, and impact is visible every day.

Your Impact

This isn't just an EA position—it's the central engine driving effective governance and executive efficiency for our Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Council. We're looking for a trusted partner to the CEO, managing confidential matters, ensuring seamless executive operations, and championing transparent communication across our entire organisation.

You will be the critical connective link—bridging the Council, executive management, staff, and the community. Your impact will be direct and immediate, enabling the CEO to focus entirely on leadership, strategy, and people.

If you embody Courage, Authenticity, Respect, Excellence, Cohesion, Humility, Inclusion, and Passion (our C.A.R.E. CHIP Values) and are ready for an active, influential role, apply now.

About You

A proven track record of providing high-level executive and governance support to a CEO, Board, or Council, thriving in a complex and fast-paced environment.

Unwavering discretion and political acumen, with a deep understanding of the confidentiality and sensitivity required at the highest levels of an organisation.

Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships and act as a credible, confident liaison between the CEO, Council, staff, and the community.

Superior organisational and time-management abilities, demonstrating a meticulous eye for detail and the capacity to flawlessly manage competing priorities under pressure.

Polished and sophisticated communication skills, capable of drafting clear, concise, and professional correspondence, reports, and minutes with exceptional accuracy.

Advanced digital literacy (Microsoft 365, EDMS), coupled with a strong understanding of governance frameworks, compliance, and meeting procedures. (Knowledge of the Local Government Act 1995 is highly desirable).
