School Lunch Program - Kitchen Supervisor

The Position
School Food Matters is seeking a dedicated and skilled Kitchen Supervisor to lead the preparation and service of nutritious meals for children participating in the Tasmanian School Lunch Program.
This role is perfect for someone who loves to cook, enjoys working with young people, and wants to make a positive difference in their community.
The part-time position at Legana Primary School is available for two days per week (12 hours) and is initially funded until the end of Term 2, 2026, with potential for extension depending on ongoing program funding.
Remuneration
This position is covered under the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010, Level 3, including superannuation. NFP Salary packaging options are available.
Hours of Work
For the part-time role (not casual positions), there are 12 weeks of holidays per year (pro rata) — three weeks paid annual leave and nine weeks unpaid.
Entitlements include sick leave, carers leave, public holidays, and annual leave loading. A Purchase Leave arrangement may also be available.

Key Responsibilities
Prepare and serve nutritious meals for students as part of the School Lunch Program.
Follow provided recipes to ensure consistency, quality, and nutritional value.
Manage daily kitchen operations, including food preparation, cooking, serving, and cleaning.
Work collaboratively with school staff and students to support meal preparation and service.
Maintain safe food handling practices (including recording temperatures and receiving deliveries).
Liaise with the School Food Matters team to ensure smooth program delivery.
Attend occasional training sessions throughout the year.
Depending on the school, meals may be cooked entirely from scratch, with ingredients delivered in advance and students sometimes assisting with preparation and service.
Person Specification
Commercial kitchen and/or cooking qualifications, or extensive catering experience.
Completion (or ability to complete) Food Safety Supervisor Certificate and All About Allergens Training.
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with adults and young people.
Sound understanding of nutritious food preparation and food safety.
Ability to manage time effectively to meet set service schedules.
Enthusiasm for involving students in food preparation and service.
Experience cooking for large groups (80+ people).
Understanding of stock control procedures, or willingness to learn.
Problem-solving skills to manage day-to-day kitchen challenges.
Current Tasmanian driver’s licence and willingness to travel intrastate.
Current Working with Vulnerable People (Child-Related Activity) registration, or ability to obtain.
Selection Criteria
Commercial kitchen and/or cooking qualifications.
Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with adults and young people.
Understanding of nutritious food, preparation, and food safety.
Current Tasmanian driver’s licence and willingness to undertake intrastate travel.
Current ‘Working with Vulnerable People’ card (child-related activity) or ability to acquire.
