The opportunity

We are looking for a new Indigenous Business Officer based in our Sydney Head Office, reporting to our group of Senior Indigenous Business Officers.

The overall objective of the Indigenous Business Officer is to advance the economic development and growth of Indigenous businesses. Our Indigenous Business Officers expertly handle registrations and certifications, conduct audits and maintain accurate supplier profiles, all while driving Indigenous initiatives to their fullest potential.

More specifically, your responsibilities include:

  • Support cultural values and integrity within the organisation, suppliers and members.
  • Foster strong ongoing relationships with Indigenous stakeholders.
  • Assess, verify, and process applications to register new Indigenous businesses on Indigenous Business Direct against set criteria for registration within set timeframes.
  • Follow up on incomplete or outstanding applications for registration.
  • Field and respond to registration and certification process inquiries as well as identify applications to register new Indigenous businesses which are potential joint ventures.
  • Conduct Indigenous joint venture registration and certification interviews
  • Conduct general registered supplier and certified supplier audit interviews and compose audit reports for approval.
  • Identify existing registered and certified Indigenous businesses that are potential Indigenous joint ventures and refer to a Senior Indigenous Business Officer for further action.
  • Field and respond to supplier enquiries, directing suppliers to online resources available to address issues raised.
  • Assist suppliers to carry out profile updates so to ensure the integrity of supplier profile information.
  • Provide insights to the Senior Indigenous Business Officer on trends, issues and opportunities relating to regions, industries and sectors.
  • Maintain accuracy and completeness of supplier information contained in Supply Nation’s customer relationship management system.
  • Provide routine reporting as required.
  • Comply with all Workplace Health and Safety policies and procedures.

What we need from you:

  • Demonstrated understanding of business structures, how businesses are managed, how they operate within the Indigenous business sector, and an understanding of the statutory/regulatory bodies (Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), Australian Charities and Not-for-Profit Commission (ACNC) and Office of Registrar of Indigenous Corporations (ORIC).
  • Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous societies, cultures and issues affecting Indigenous Australians in business.
  • Proven experience in a business officer role or similar role, within an Indigenous business or community.
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting strong working relationships both internally and externally.
  • Exceptional written and verbal skills.
  • Ability to manage and prioritise workloads within tight timeframes.
  • Familiarity with funding opportunities and grant application processes.
  • Familiarity with government and corporate Indigenous procurement and other initiatives related to Indigenous economic development.
  • Experience working as part of a team.
  • Strong written and verbal skills.
  • Strong organisational skills.
