The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Manager Minor Capital Works to provide a critical role within Contracts and Infrastructure Branch
About the Business Unit
Contracts and Infrastructure are responsible for contract management, commercial oversight and advisory services, as well as the effective management and maintenance of all Corrections and Justice Services' prison and related infrastructure. This includes:
- The management and oversight of major contracts including those for private prisons.
- Representing the Corrections and Justice Services' interests on infrastructure and construction projects to ensure the best possible outcome for stakeholders and commercial partners.
- The development and implementation of all required systems, processes and policies to sustain this diverse asset portfolio.
About the Role
The role of the Manager Minor Capital Works is to manage and lead the delivery of minor capital works projects and asset lifecycle replacements as well as reviewing and providing expert advice and feedback on designs and drawings for capital works. Additionally, the Manager is responsible for managing, monitoring and reporting on the AIFT budget, including reporting on the detailed analysis of expenditure within the financial parameters of the budget. This role will involve engagement with senior leaders and management of the various committees and approval requirements linked to the expenditure and delivery of AIFT projects.
The incumbent is responsible for contributing to the development of a 10-year infrastructure strategy including the development of business cases and feasibility/ option papers for high value and high-risk infrastructure projects, new builds, expansion and upgrades to existing infrastructure. Role responsibilities also includes close collaboration with Assets and Infrastructure's internal and external stakeholders to oversee the development of user guides, standards, frameworks and policies as required by the Contracts and Infrastructure Branch.
Some of your duties will include:
- Manage and lead the delivery of minor capital works projects and asset lifecycle replacements in conjunction with site facility managers, ensuring works are carried out on time and within cost, scope and quality parameters.
- Review and provide expert advice and feedback on designs and drawings for capital works being delivered by the Community Safety Building Authority (CSBA).
- Implement and utilise appropriate project management controls in line with the department's project management excellence (PME) framework and proactively identify and manage project risks and issues.
- Manage, monitor and report on the AIFT budget and coordinate the committee's associated with delegate approvals and project oversight.
- Report on the implementation of projects funded through the AIFT

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Significant project management experience in capital works, asset lifecycle replacement, building, construction or infrastructure.
Qualifications/requirements
- Formal qualifications in building design, drafting, architecture or other relevant industrial/construction design qualifications would be highly desirable.
