Category Director - Australia & New Zealand

Established over 20 years ago, our client is a leading supplier of home improvement and decorative products, sourced from a global network of top-tier manufacturers. Based in South East Melbourne, the business benefits from its own sourcing team in China and prides itself on strong relationships, innovative product offerings, and efficient operations.

We are seeking a high-product-category individual who is hands-on to take full ownership of the product portfolio while driving commercial growth. Hungry? Go out and get it.

This role is suited to an entrepreneurial, strategic individual with a strong background in product sourcing, category management, and national retail account management, ready to take the next step in their career. An interest in trend-based products and design with an eye for colour and texture will deliver more passion and purpose to the role.

The Role

• Product Ownership: Lead the end-to-end process of sourcing, ranging, and managing product lines, ensuring alignment with market trends and customer needs.
• Strategic Sourcing: Identify new product opportunities from international and domestic suppliers, negotiating optimal pricing, quality, and supply chain efficiencies.
• Category Management: Develop product strategies that enhance category performance and deliver strong commercial outcomes.
• Retail Partnerships: Manage and grow key relationships with Bunnings and other national retail accounts to drive sales and profitability.
• Financial & Commercial Analysis: Utilise strong analytical skills to assess product costings, margins, and sales forecasts, ensuring data-driven decision-making.
• Marketing & Merchandising: Work closely with internal teams to develop packaging, branding, and promotional strategies that enhance product visibility and appeal.

The Requirements

• Product & Sourcing Expertise: Proven experience in sourcing, category management, or product development, preferably within a retail or wholesale environment.
• Retail Account Management: Prior experience working with national retailers such as Bunnings, either directly or as a supplier.
• Analytical & Commercial Acumen: Strong proficiency in Excel and financial reporting, with a keen eye for profitability and forecasting.
• Strategic Leadership: Ability to develop and execute comprehensive sales and product strategies that align with business objectives.
• Strong Communication Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities to influence stakeholders, negotiate contracts, and lead a team.
• Innovative Mindset: Passion for identifying market trends and bringing new products to market.
