We are currently seeking applications for a Principal Insurance Advisor, to join the South Australian Government Financing Authority (SAFA) at The Department of Treasury & Finance for a period of 12 months

Remuneration: ASO7 - Salary Range ($108,109 - $116,864 p.a.).

About the opportunity:

The Principal Insurance Advisor will provide sound insurance and risk management advice to SAFA and its government insurance clients and stakeholders. This involves providing advice on the development of insurance products and pricing to support the State as both a captive and last resort insurer, the provision of risk transfer advice to government agencies for state owned assets and liabilities, and working across government to place commercial insurance for major infrastructure works and other risks insured outside of the captive.

The Principal Insurance Advisor will also have the opportunity to support SAFA's across government policy advice on insurance availability and affordability, particularly in the context of increasing climate and litigation risk, and be involved in the modernisation of the underwriting, reinsurance, financial and risk management activities under the captive and other partner-insurer relationships managed by SAFA.

The Principal Insurance Advisor reports to the Manager, Insurance Services and has significant liaison with the Manager, Strategic Partnerships, Manager, Claims Services, and Insurance and Risk Management representatives of Government Agencies and Statutory Authorities insured with SAFA.

About you

To be successful you will have:

Professional qualification in the insurance industry, or tertiary qualification in business, law, finance, commerce, economics, risk, compliance or a related discipline, or be studying for such qualifications. Insurance experience is valued but not essential.

Demonstrated ability to think strategically and respond adaptively to the needs and emerging risks of the Government of South Australia, including the ability to identify and develop new business opportunities.

Ability to understand the nature of Government or complex organisations and to respond appropriately to matters of political sensitivity.

Demonstrated experience in the analysis of complex problems, formulating solutions and providing clear, concise and comprehensive recommendations, both verbally and in writing.

Demonstrated experience in communicating effectively with a broad network of stakeholders including the provision of complex written advice, briefings and recommendations, and verbal presentations in both formal and informal settings.

Proven ability to work autonomously, prioritise and organise work to achieve objectives within strict project or task timeframes with a minimum of supervision, including dealing with competing demands in a complex environment.
