The Glenelg Hopkins Catchment Management Authority (CMA) was established in 1997 to effectively and efficiently deliver land, water and biodiversity programs that protect and enhance landscapes as well as support thriving communities.

About the role

The Waterways Project Officer will support the development of the Regional Waterway Strategy (RWS). This will include drafting communications, both internal and external to the CMA, preparing content for the Strategy, engagement with community and stakeholders, administrative support, and reporting requirements.

The ideal candidate will understand contemporary concepts in managing waterway and wetland values and understand key challenges and opportunities in waterway management. We are seeking a candidate with an understanding of Traditional Owners' cultural rights and responsibilities in waterway management

About You

You are a passionate and experienced Natural Resource Management professional with a strong foundation in waterway and wetland values. You bring a deep understanding of contemporary waterway management practices and the challenges and opportunities they present. You are committed to inclusive and respectful engagement, with a clear appreciation of Traditional Owners' cultural rights and responsibilities in managing waterways.

Your strengths lie in your ability to plan, coordinate, and deliver diverse projects efficiently. You are highly organised and thrive in collaborative environments. Your interpersonal skills enable you to build strong relationships with stakeholders, negotiate effectively, and contribute positively to team dynamics.

Mandatory Requirements

Current Victorian Drivers Licence

Current Working with Children Check (can be obtained prior to appointment)

Police Check (can be obtained prior to appointment)

Completion of a pre-employment medical declaration and/or independent physical assessment (if required).

Must have the legal right to work in Australia.

The Glenelg Hopkins region lies south of the Great Dividing Range in Victoria's south west. The region is renowned for its scenic beauty, dramatic coastline and rich biodiversity. It covers approximately 26,000 sq km, extending from Ballarat in the east to the South Australian border in the west, and from the southern coast of Victoria to the townships of Harrow and Ararat in the north. There are four basins that occur within the region: Glenelg, Millicent, Hopkins and Portland Coast.

The boundaries of the region include marine and coastal waters out to the state limit of three nautical miles. The region is characterised by flat volcanic plains in the south, while the Grampians, Dundas tablelands, Black Ranges and Central Highlands are dominant in the north.
