Be part of shaping the future of medical education at Curtin.

Curtin’s Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) is entering an exciting phase of curriculum renewal - and we are seeking an experienced scientist-educator to play a pivotal role in bringing the new Year 1 MBBS curriculum to life. This is a part-time position (0.4 FTE) available on a 1-year contract.

In this newly created teaching and assessment focused role, you will deliver high-quality, core knowledge of biomedical science with specific focus in anatomy, a cornerstone of clinical competence.

In the MBBS spiral curriculum, students revisit anatomical concepts in increasing depth across systems and years. A strong foundation in Year 1 ensures vertical integration with all areas of medical practice. Our horizontal integration demands that biomedical science be taught in synchrony with physiology fostering an understanding of homeostasis and pathophysiology through Problem-Based Learning and Clinical Skills teaching. The specialist Anatomy lecturer will develop gross and microscopic anatomy teaching and ensure integration within all aspects of Year one of the MBBS.

You will support students in structured lectures/anatomy labs (including cadaveric/digital dissection labs). In this key role, you will guide students to extend their scientific learning to explore Aboriginal health, the value of research and the importance of quality and safety in medical practice as directed by the Graduate Outcome Statements of the Australian Medical Council.

Your New Role

As Lecturer/Senior Lecturer, you will:

  • Teach across a range of learning settings - including laboratory workshops, science focused seminars and multimodal delivery
  • Contribute to the development of the GMED1002 curriculum, which integrates biomedical science taught in a body system progression, with early clinical reasoning and problem solving.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the Discipline of Medicine/Faculty of Health Sciences to ensure horizontal integration of scientific and clinical content.
  • Contribute to curriculum mapping, assessment development and delivery, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Bring consistency, quality assurance, and clinical relevance to all aspects of Year 1 medical education delivery.

This role represents an essential step in the growth of Curtin Medical School (CMS). From 2026 all basic science teaching will be integrated directly with the CMS Problem based learning and Clinical Skills programs, and delivery will be led by CMS academics. Such integration will ensure that the CMS curriculum remains authentic, clinically relevant, and deeply engaging for our students.
