Coordinator Asset Accounting
Whitsunday Regional Council - Proserpine, Queensland
Permanent Full Time | Flexible Hybrid or Remote Options | $109,531 to $115,921 per annum plus superannuation
About the company
Whitsunday Regional Council is a progressive and community-focused local government serving one of Queensland's most iconic regions. The Finance team has a strong reputation for collaboration, performance, and innovation, regularly presenting at professional forums and recognised among the top three councils in the state for financial year-end closeout.
Council's finance function is led by experienced professionals who value teamwork, integrity, and continuous improvement. Staff are empowered to take ownership of their work, share knowledge, and drive positive change. This is an opportunity to join an award-winning, high-performing finance team in a supportive and values-driven environment.
About the role
The Coordinator Asset Accounting is responsible for managing the accuracy, compliance, and integrity of Council's $1.4 billion asset register and associated financial systems. Reporting to the Manager Strategic Finance, you will oversee all aspects of asset accounting including revaluations, capitalisations, disposals, and work in progress.
This role plays a key part in partnering with asset managers and project teams across Council to ensure assets are recognised, valued, and reported in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards. You will lead the coordination of annual revaluations across multiple asset classes and provide expert advice to support sound financial management and audit compliance.
While technically focused, the position also involves project work and continuous improvement initiatives, such as system upgrades, data transformation, and the transition to new systems. You will also have the opportunity to mentor an emerging Accounting Officer who is developing toward future leadership within the team.
The position is primarily based in Proserpine, however Council is open to flexible working, hybrid, and remote arrangements. Given the nature of the role, on-site presence is typically required twice per year, around the asset revaluation and end-of-financial-year periods.
About you
You are a technically capable and collaborative accounting professional who enjoys variety, ownership, and problem-solving. You have a strong understanding of accounting standards, particularly those relating to Property, Plant & Equipment, and are confident engaging with diverse stakeholders to achieve shared outcomes.
You will have tertiary qualifications in accounting, commerce, or a related discipline, and ideally hold or be working toward CPA or CA membership. Experience in local government or other asset-intensive industries such as infrastructure, mining, or utilities would be highly regarded. Candidates from audit or financial accounting backgrounds with the right technical capability are also encouraged to apply.
Just as important as your technical skills are your communication and relationship-building abilities. You bring a genuine willingness to collaborate, share knowledge, and support others to achieve their best. You will thrive in a team that values initiative, professional growth, and continuous learning.
The benefits
This is a rare opportunity to combine professional challenge with lifestyle balance. Council offers a competitive salary plus superannuation, along with up to $8,000 relocation assistance and a locality allowance. Employees enjoy a nine-day fortnight, generous leave entitlements, and access to ongoing professional development including conferences, study support, and internal knowledge-sharing sessions.
You will be joining a high-performing, award-winning finance team led by a manager who empowers people, encourages professional curiosity, and recognises the value of continuous improvement. Working in the Whitsundays also offers the chance to enjoy one of Queensland's most sought-after coastal lifestyles while contributing to meaningful community outcomes.
If you are ready to bring your technical expertise and collaborative approach to a role where you can make a real impact, we would love to hear from you.
