This role requires someone who can provide technical leadership, drive infrastructure modernisation, and work collaboratively across interdisciplinary teams in a sovereign capability environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement infrastructure solutions across hypervisor platforms, cloud services, and virtualisation technologies
  • Lead network modernisation initiatives including configuration of next-generation firewalls, switches, and network segmentation
  • Oversee server administration, VDI, and cloud infrastructure deployment across digital science platforms
  • Establish and maintain stakeholder relationships with divisional staff and project teams
  • Develop automation strategies and orchestration solutions to improve infrastructure efficiency
  • Ensure infrastructure hardening, security monitoring, and compliance with government security requirements
  • Create technical documentation, troubleshooting procedures, and system configuration guides

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum 7+ years in senior infrastructure engineering or technical leadership roles
  • Proven experience leading multi-disciplinary technical teams and complex infrastructure projects
  • Strong expertise across multiple infrastructure domains (2 or more of: networking, cloud, Windows, Linux)
  • Deep understanding of enterprise infrastructure architecture, design principles, and best practices
  • Experience with virtualisation platforms (VMware) and on-premise cloud technologies
  • Strong background in network design, security, and management including Cisco routing/switching and next-generation firewalls (Palo Alto preferred)
  • Hands-on experience with automation and scripting (PowerShell, Python, Bash, Ansible)
  • Knowledge of security hardening, vulnerability management, and security monitoring in complex environments
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex and undocumented systems
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet challenging deadlines, and drive results

Desirable:

  • Government or defence industry experience
  • NV2 security clearance

  • Linux/UNIX administration experience (CentOS, RedHat, Ubuntu)
  • Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure stack deployment and management
  • Relevant certifications (Cisco CCNP/CCIE, Microsoft, Linux, VMware, or cloud certifications)
  • Experience with DevOps practices and infrastructure-as-code
  • Knowledge of micro-segmentation and zero-trust network architectures
  • Familiarity with government security frameworks and compliance requirements

Note: This role requires active NV1 security clearance (NV2 preferred). The working location is a government facility in a physical security zone where portable electronic devices (mobile phones, laptops, smartwatches, or any device with Wi-Fi/Bluetooth/4G/5G) are not permitted inside the building.
