Finance Lead
We're recruiting on behalf of a dynamic and evolving operational business that is seeking a commercially minded Finance Lead. This is not your average back-office accounting role. You'll be the strategic link between operations and finance, driving margin, efficiency, and profitability on the ground.
About the Role
Working closely with the Branch Manager and operations leaders, you'll bring visibility to key cost drivers, translate daily activity into financial impact, and support the commercial performance of the site. You'll also help shape the financial framework for a significant upcoming plant expansion, ensuring financial processes are efficient, compliant, and built for scale. You'll be comfortable rolling up your sleeves, owning revenue assurance, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting, while confidently engaging with stakeholders across operations, logistics, customer service, and shared services.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a true business partner, educating, influencing, and supporting non-financial teams
- Analyse operational cost drivers (fleet, labour, tipping, routing) and recommend cost-saving initiatives
- Lead weekly & monthly reporting, journals, reconciliations, and financial commentary, reporting to the GM
- Manage revenue assurance and invoicing oversight to support accurate billing and recognition
- Design and track KPIs that link day-to-day operations with financial performance
- Support fleet utilisation, plant expansion and new process design from a commercial finance lens
- Drive improvements in financial controls, processes, and systems
- Lead budgeting and forecasting, including scenario modelling and capital expenditure tracking
What You'll Bring
- 3+ years in commercial finance, business partnering or cost accounting roles
- Excellent communication skills and strong leadership skills
- Ideally a background in environmental waste operations, logistics, manufacturing or transport sectors
- Solid understanding of cost drivers, margin analysis, and financial modelling
- Experience developing operational KPIs and using real-time performance data
- Hands-on general accounting knowledge (month-end, reconciliations, accruals)
- Strong MS Suite application skills including Excel, ERP & CRM skills and Monday.com skills
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate between different audience levels between multidisciplinary teams
- A continuous improvement mindset, with the confidence to challenge the status quo and bring people on the journey
