About the role
This is a contract role with the Wangkatja Tjungula Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC (WTAC) based in Kalgoorlie (preferred) or Perth, WA. As the Future Acts Officer, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Corporation's engagement with the native title process and protecting the rights and interests of the local Indigenous community. This position is ideal for someone with experience in Native Title and a deep understanding of Aboriginal culture and community needs.
This role is a 12-month full-time fixed term contract with possibility of extension.
What you'll be doing
Receive, assess and track notifications under the Native Title Act 1993, Mining Act 1978 (WA), Land Administration Act 1997, and related legislation
Liaising with government agencies, developers and other stakeholders on proposed future acts that may impact the native title rights and interests of the community
Support the negotiation of Indigenous Land Use Agreements (ILUAs), Mining Agreements, Heritage Agreements, and other related contracts
Coordinating and supporting the Corporation's participation in the future act process
Prepare documentation, briefing notes, and recommendations for the WTAC Board in relation to future acts
Providing advice and support to the Board of Directors on native title matters
Assisting with the implementation and monitoring of any future act agreements
What we're looking for
Demonstrated experience in native title, future acts, and Aboriginal land rights
Strong understanding of the Native Title Act 1993 and its implications
Excellent research, analytical and problem-solving skills
Proven ability to effectively engage and negotiate with a diverse range of stakeholders
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly
Experience working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities
Tertiary qualifications in law, Indigenous studies, or a related discipline
