About Us
Budja Budja Aboriginal Cooperative is a proud Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (ACCHO), founded by CEO and Elder Tim Chatfield. From our clinics in Halls Gap and Ararat, we provide culturally safe, holistic and person-centred care to local Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities across the Grampians region. Our services include primary health care, general practice, community health and Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB), which supports mental health, AOD services, families and cultural connection. As the only Aboriginal-led health service in the region, Budja Budja is committed to strengthening culture, health and wellbeing through care that honours community and connection.
The Role
We are seeking a Communications and Digital Media Assistant to support the Budja Budja team by creating, managing, and delivering inclusive, respectful, and engaging content across a variety of platforms. This role is vital in promoting awareness of all Budja Budja services, strengthening connections with community members, and ensuring our messaging aligns with cultural values and health and wellbeing priorities. The successful candidate will bring a creative, community-centred approach to communications and media, with a strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and the role of communications in community engagement.
Your responsibilities will include:
Supporting the development and implementation of a communications and media plan for Budja Budja.
Creating and publishing culturally respectful content across social media, website, newsletters and community channels.
Designing and coordinating promotional materials such as posters, flyers and digital assets.
· Promote general and preventative health through communicating clinical activities and health and wellbeing initiatives
Managing digital channels (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn), including community engagement and responses.
Working with community members and stakeholders to share stories, testimonials and awareness campaigns.
Supporting the coordination of community events, campaigns and outreach activities.
Drafting internal and external communications including newsletters and media releases.
Monitoring social media trends, reporting on engagement and suggesting improvements.
Ensuring all communications align with cultural protocols, organisational values and privacy requirements.
About You
You are creative, community-minded and committed to using communications as a tool for positive impact. You bring experience in social media or communications, with the ability to design content that is respectful, culturally safe and engaging for diverse audiences. You’re organised, flexible and confident managing competing priorities, and you value working collaboratively as part of a team that serves community.
Essential Criteria:
Tertiary qualification (or working towards) in Communications, Marketing, Community Development or a related field
Experience in communications, social media or marketing, ideally within a community, not-for-profit or Aboriginal organisation
Strong cultural awareness and ability to engage respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
Excellent writing and storytelling skills with sensitivity to diverse audiences
Knowledge of social media platforms, content creation tools and content management systems (e.g. WordPress, Canva, Mailchimp)
Strong organisational skills and ability to balance competing priorities
Ability to obtain a Working with Children Check and National Police Clearance
Current Driver’s Licence and willingness to travel to both Halls Gap and Ararat locations and within the community
Proof of COVID-19 vaccinations
Desirable:
Experience in an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (ACCHO).
