ABOUT THE ROLE
We’re looking for a Senior Manager Accountant to join our growing team and we are open to candidates based in Melbourne to working in a fully remote capacity. The Senior Manager Accountant is responsible for leading the technical accuracy, compliance integrity, and workflow discipline of the Tax and Accounting service line. This is a hands-on leadership position that combines advanced technical expertise in Australian taxation and accounting with strong team management and process improvement capabilities.

The role ensures that every deliverable meets the highest professional standards, deadlines are consistently met, and clients receive accurate, reliable, and timely outcomes. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Key responsibilities of the role include:

Technical and Compliance Leadership

Oversee the preparation, review, and lodgment of complex income tax returns, fringe benefits tax (FBT) returns, BAS, IAS, and other statutory filings.

Ensure all deliverables are fully compliant with Australian taxation laws, accounting standards, and internal quality control processes.

Act as the escalation point for complex technical queries within the accounting team.

Maintain current technical knowledge across tax and accounting regulations, proactively implementing changes in workflows and templates to meet updated compliance requirements.

Workflow and Process Management

Lead the planning, allocation, and tracking of accounting tasks to ensure on-time and on budget delivery.

Review and approve workpapers and deliverables prepared by the team before finalisation.

Maintain and refine SOPs to ensure consistency, accuracy, and efficiency across all service delivery.

Identify and implement process improvements, automation opportunities, and efficiency gains in accounting workflows and reporting.

Team Leadership and Development

Manage, coach, and mentor a team of accounting and bookkeeping professionals, both onshore and offshore.

Foster a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous learning.

Provide structured training to lift technical skills and operational knowledge within the team.

Encourage cross-training to build team resilience and reduce key-person risk.

Collaboration and Communication

Work closely with the broader leadership team to align technical priorities with commercial goals.

Communicate proactively with internal stakeholders regarding compliance risks, technical matters, and workflow priorities.

Support client-facing team members with the technical insights required to deliver accurate, timely advice.

ABOUT YOU

Deep technical expertise in Australian taxation and accounting standards.

Proven experience managing and reviewing complex corporate tax and accounting deliverables

Strong leadership skills, with experience managing diverse teams across multiple locations.

Exceptional attention to detail and ability to quickly identify errors or compliance risks.

Advanced time management and organisational skills.

Proficiency in modern accounting software and practice management tools.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly.

Experience Xero and Xero Practice Manager, QuickBooks, Workflow/project management platforms (e.g., Asana, Monday.com) - but not essential
