We are partnering with a large privately held business in the transport and logistics sector to recruit a Payroll Officer. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to grow in a supportive, fast-paced team that values accuracy, collaboration, and a good sense of humour.
About the Role
Reporting to the Payroll Manager and working closely with HR, Finance, and Operations, this role is responsible for the end-to-end processing of weekly payroll for a large and diverse workforce.
You’ll play an important part in ensuring compliance, accuracy, and great service to internal stakeholders while supporting continuous improvement across payroll systems and processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Process weekly payroll for a large multi-site workforce of close to 1000 employees with a mix of awards and common law employees
- Ensure compliance with legislation, policies, and internal procedures
- Review and verify timekeeping data, deductions, superannuation, and leave
- Maintain accurate employee records and handle payroll queries promptly
- Prepare and reconcile payroll reports for Finance and management
- Support payroll system improvements, automation, and integration projects
About You
You are detail-oriented, proactive, and take pride in delivering accurate work under pressure. You enjoy being part of a social and supportive team and bring a positive, solutions-focused mindset to your work. You have a great sense of humour, you enjoy making friends at work but when it's crunch time you can set your mind to a task and execute!
Experience and Attributes
- 2+ years of experience in payroll, ideally in transport, logistics, or a similar environment. If you have a good general understanding of Payroll this is also an opportunity for our payroll Manager to train you up in best practice, within a reputable organisation.
- Familiar with awards and agreements in high-volume blue-collar settings
- Strong understanding of payroll legislation and compliance
- Experience with payroll systems such as Definitiv, Micropay, or MYOB
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to balance accuracy with efficiency in a busy environment
What’s on Offer
- Salary c.$80,000 + super (room to negotiate for relevant industry experience).

- Monday to Friday roster, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm (potential to move to part-time).
- Hybrid work available after probation (one day WFH, excluding Monday and Tuesday as this is payroll run day).
