Whilst a postgraduate qualification is an essential requirement for ongoing appointment to this vacancy, all applicants will be assessed. If the most suitable applicant does not hold the qualification, they may be appointed on a fixed basis with ongoing appointment subject to attaining the qualification during the fixed term.

The Department of Health manages the Northern Territory public health system, operating as one system across 5 regions, providing the full spectrum of essential, quality health services, from health promotion to prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and palliative care across the life course.
Located in Darwin, the Top End Mental Health and Other Drugs Team provides specialist mental health services to clients and their families across the Northern Region of Australia, including case management, assessments and therapeutic interventions.
As a Clinical Specialist Nurse (Mental Health), you support and provide collaborative, appropriate, proficient, coordinated direct and indirect clinical care for complex client presentations, including working with and alongside less experienced nursing and midwifery staff, with the speciality area.
This involves engaging in the provision of mental health triage, mental assessments of clients in community and emergency department, with short-term brief intervention through the Acute Care Team using a recovery-based framework. You will also take accountability for providing sound professional advice and for the assessment planning, review and evaluation of comprehensive client care and/or case management. Working collaboratively with mental health professionals you will support the development of contemporary models of care and contribute to Continuous Quality Improvement programs.
To be successful you require eligibility for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia,
Graduate Certificate beyond entry-to-practice (for ongoing employment) and highly developed clinical knowledge and skills in a relevant area of Nursing and Midwifery. Demonstrated experience working with mental health clients with complex needs and sound knowledge of mental illness/disorders and contemporary approaches to mental health care is essential. In addition, you will have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, family and community structures, with the ability to communicate and work effectively in a culturally safe manner.
