What you’ll be doing

As Manager at our On a Roll Bakery/Cafe, you’ll lead and inspire a passionate team in a fast-paced, high-energy venue that serves over 1,200 customers a day. You’ll take charge of day-to-day operations, from rostering and reporting to stock management and service delivery, ensuring everything runs smoothly as fresh food arrives daily from our onsite kitchens. Alongside this, you’ll oversee the outlet’s thriving coffee and beverage trade (we go through approximately 15kg of coffee a day!) and keep the customer experience buzzing. Most importantly, you’ll be part of a supportive leadership team that values growth, collaboration, and fun while making a real impact on campus life.
As the Bakery Outlet Manager, you’ll:
Lead and inspire a passionate team in a fast-paced, high-energy outlet
Manage day-to-day operations including rostering, reporting, and stock inventory
Keep service running smoothly as fresh food arrives daily from onsite kitchens
Oversee and participate in delivering a vibrant, high-energy coffee and beverage service
Induct, train, and coach team members to build skills and confidence
Monitor performance, provide feedback, and support staff growth
Maintain high standards in food safety, hygiene, and compliance
Manage cash handling, daily banking, and financial reporting
Work with management on promotions, planning, and continuous improvements
Build strong relationships with students, staff, suppliers, and stakeholders
Be part of a supportive leadership team that values growth, collaboration, and fun
Required skills & Experience
Proven barista expertise in a high-volume environment with a focus on speed, quality, and consistency
Experience in training and mentoring baristas, ensuring consistent standards and techniques across the team
Strong leadership skills with previous experience supervising and motivating a team in hospitality or retail
Ability to maintain service consistency under pressure and during peak trade
Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-first mindset
Confident in handling customer feedback with professionalism and courtesy
Computer literacy, including POS systems and relevant software packages
Ability to manage rosters, stock, and reporting in line with operational and budget requirements
A collaborative team player who contributes to a positive culture and aligns with UQU’s Code of Conduct

Please note: Internally this position is titled Outlet Supervisor (Bakery) and is classified as a manager-level role within our Enterprise Agreement.
