The Role
You will support the Chief Finance Officer and the Manager Financial Accounting in leading and coordinating financial accounting processes and policies for the Department of Local Government, Water and Volunteers (DLGWV). You will contribute to the preparation of the department's financial statements, and develop and implement operational policies, procedures and practices that facilitate and support financial management within DLGWV.

Key Accountabilities:
• Assist in the timely preparation of the department's annual financial statements in compliance with relevant accounting standards, Queensland Treasury Financial Reporting Requirements, and other pronouncements
• Contribute to ensuring the integrity of the department's financial accounting records and systems, ensuring that they are maintained in accordance with accounting standards, legislative and departmental requirements
• Assist with the timely and accurate preparation of relevant reporting to Queensland Treasury such as Quarterly Tridata and annual Departmental financial statement package submissions
• Contribute to the development and implementation of appropriate asset accounting, recording and valuation policies and systems, which contribute to enhanced asset management and satisfy financial reporting requirements
• Support in the development of policies, plans, strategies, and procedures including maintenance of an up-to-date Financial Management Practice Manual to ensure there is continuous improvement of the financial management of the department
• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, accounting standards, auditing requirements and departmental guidelines, and assist with training to promote department-wide understanding of accrual accounting concepts
• Assist with the provision of advice on taxation related issues for the department
• Contribute to a challenging, equitable, ethical, and safe working environment for staff that encourages commitment, skills development, professional growth and continuous improvement directed towards the achievement of Branch goals and objectives.

About You
There are no mandatory requirements for this role however, a tertiary degree in Commerce, Business or Accounting and membership of the ICAA, CPA or other equivalent organisations is highly desirable as is experience in the use of SAP, PowerBi, Tridata and the Microsoft suite or similar financial system reporting tools would be highly regarded.
