Our client is a leading IT organisation that is looking for a IT Systems Manager, to oversee the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and strategic development of their IT systems and infrastructure. This is a key leadership position where you will take ownership of their technology environment, ensuring performance, resilience, and security, while supporting the growth and efficiency of their business.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain servers, networks, storage, virtualisation, and cloud infrastructure
• Lead the deployment, configuration, and upgrade of system software and hardware
• Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure high availability and reliability
• Implement and enforce security protocols, patch management, backup strategies, and disaster recovery plans
• Manage relationships with third-party vendors for hardware, software, and IT services
• Plan and execute system upgrades and migrations with minimal business disruption
• Lead, mentor, and support a small team of system administrators and IT support staff
• Work cross-functionally with other departments and IT teams to deliver infrastructure support for ongoing projects
• Maintain up-to-date documentation of system architecture, processes, and configurations
• Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices, recommending relevant improvements
• Participate in an on-call rotation and provide after-hours support for maintenance or emergencies when needed

Your skills:

• Extensive experience managing complex IT systems and infrastructure
• Solid experience with virtualisation platforms such as VMware or Hyper-V
• Proficiency with cloud technologies like AWS or Azure
• Strong understanding of networking (LAN/WAN, firewalls, VPNs)
• Expert knowledge of Windows Server and Linux/Unix operating systems
• Deep understanding of security, backup, and disaster recovery best practices
• Proven ability to lead and develop a small team of technical staff
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure
• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
