About your new role
The City of Gold Coast is transforming the way we deliver technology across our organisation and we’re looking for a Server Compute Officer to help shape the future of our enterprise infrastructure.
In this role, you’ll manage and maintain the City’s physical and virtual server environments, ensuring our systems remain secure, high-performing, and always available. You’ll work across modern cloud platforms, virtualisation technologies, and automation tools, collaborating with IT teams, business units, and vendors to support mission-critical services.
Duties for the role include but not limited to:
• Server Management & Administration: Configure, deploy, and maintain physical and virtual server infrastructure across on-premise and cloud environments.
• Virtualisation & Cloud Computing: Manage and optimise virtualisation platforms such as VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V and Azure.
• Performance Monitoring & Optimisation: Monitor server performance, identify issues, and implement tuning measures to enhance efficiency.
• Automation & Scripting: Utilise PowerShell, Python and other scripting tools to automate server management tasks and improve operational efficiency.
• Incident Response & Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve server-related incidents, working closely with other IT teams to minimise downtime.
• Collaboration with Vendors & Stakeholders: Work with external service providers for server procurement, support contracts, and system upgrades.

We're looking for people who have:
• Bachelor Degree in Information Technology or the equivalent knowledge.
• Experience in IT support with a focus on server compute administration and management.
• Strong knowledge of enterprise server environments, including Windows Server and Linux-based operating systems.
• Experience specificity within a Linux operating environment would be highly regarded.
• Hands-on experience with virtualisation technologies such as VMware vSphere or Microsoft Hyper-V.
• Experience managing cloud-based compute resources in AWS, Azure, or Google for server management and configuration.
• Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, VMware Certified Professional (VCP), or AWS Certified SysOps Administrator.
