About the Research Governance and Funding Team:

The team supports high-quality research by providing governance, ethics oversight, regulatory compliance, research integrity and funding management. It ensures researchers have guidance and resources to meet national and institutional standards, while fostering a culture of research integrity and excellence. The Research Governance and Funding manages the interface between the Institute, Ethics Committees, researchers, and State, Federal, and international regulatory bodies.

Role Purpose / Responsibilities:

The Research Compliance Officer will:

  • Developing and maintaining open communication and proactive support
  • Collaborating with research ethics, integrity, veterinary services and animal facility staff
  • Resolving complex ethical, regulatory or operational issues
  • Building relationships with regulatory bodies, government agencies and sector partners
  • Promote and support best practice in the conduct of both human and animal research at QIMR Berghofer.
  • Provide expert advice on research ethics, compliance, and governance to researchers, and senior leadership.
  • Monitor research activities through audits, inspections, and post-approval reviews to ensure compliance with ethical approvals, legislation, and institutional requirements.
  • Contribute to the development of policies, procedures, and training programs that foster responsible and ethical research conduct.
  • Assist researchers in delivering high-quality, compliant research by:
  • Investigate incidents and non-compliance and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Develop and deliver training programs and resources for staff and researchers
  • Promote a safe, ethical, and transparent research environment that reflects QIMR Berghofer's commitment to integrity and excellence.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare compliance reports for management, committees and regulatory bodies.

About you:

We're seeking a highly organised individual with:

Essential

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in in Life Science, Biomedical Science, Medicine, Veterinary Science, or related discipline (postgraduate qualifications desirable).
  • Experience in human and/or animal research and compliance, ethics administration or governance
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, codes, and guidelines relevant to human and animal research
  • Ability to provide practical compliance guidance and resolve complex issues.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills with ability to manage multiple projects
  • Detail-oriented and process-focused with a strong ability to take initiative and optimize workflows.

Desirable

  • Experience preparing for or supporting audits and regulatory inspections

Remuneration: Salary range is $109 791 to $121 898 p.a. plus super and salary packaging. This is a permanent, full-time position.
