About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Senior Systems Officer (AO6) to join our Predictions Unit.
This role is responsible for developing, maintaining and improving QFD’s predictive intelligence systems and data models that inform decision-making across prevention, preparedness, response and recovery. Key responsibilities include:
Managing and refining predictive systems, models and datasets to support multi-hazard operations and bushfire prediction.
Developing and maintaining GIS data, workflows and scripts to enhance situational awareness and planning.
Collaborating with the Bureau of Meteorology, emergency services, and scientific partners to produce accurate, actionable predictions and intelligence.
Strengthening data governance and system integration to improve transparency, reliability and interoperability.
Contributing to continuous improvement of QFD’s predictive and intelligence capability.
About You
You are a motivated professional who enjoys working with complex systems and data to deliver real-world outcomes. You thrive in collaborative, technically focused environments and take pride in contributing to the safety and resilience of Queensland communities.
To be successful in this role, you’ll bring:
Demonstrated experience using GIS platforms and data-driven decision-support tools.
Strong technical capability with tools such as ArcGIS Pro, FME, Python or equivalent.
Experience managing and visualising large, complex datasets (e.g. weather, vegetation, or land-use).
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate technical information for non-technical audiences.
Willingness to participate in on-call and operational rosters when required.
Relevant tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Data Science, Engineering or a related field.
Understanding of Queensland Disaster Management Arrangements or incident management systems (desirable).
