Position Description and Selection Criteria: PD&PEWER_SM1_WHS Manager (Psychosocial)

Position overview
The Australian National University is committed to providing a workplace that is safe and healthy for all staff, students, contractors and visitors and is without risk to the environment. The Safety and Wellbeing (S&W) team within the People and Culture Division is responsible for the management of Work Health and Safety (WHS), injury prevention and management, and workers compensation and self-insurance.

The Manager, WHS (Psychosocial) is responsible for leading the University’s psychosocial risk management program within the WHS Management System, partnering across Colleges and Divisions to embed good work design, strengthen consultation and reporting pathways, and ensure psychosocial risks are effectively controlled. The role leads through influence to drive consistent, practical outcomes.

The position will provide strategic and expert advice to maintain, implement and continuously improve psychosocial elements of the WHS Management System and associated programs in accordance with the University’s legislative obligations and self-insurance requirements. The role will translate data and evidence into clear actions and governance reporting, support risk assessments and incident reviews, and contribute to delivery of University WHS objectives and KPIs.

To be successful in this role, you will have demonstrated experience delivering psychosocial risk frameworks and programs (ideally aligned to ISO 45001/45003), WHS risk management and assessments, and improvement initiatives in complex organisations, preferably within a self-insurance environment. An outcome-driven professional, you lead through collaboration, communicate with clarity to senior stakeholders, and reliably deliver against agreed objectives and targets while building a positive WHS culture.
