Program Manager (SPHERE, Cancer Clinical Academic Group)

  • Employment Type: Full - time (35 hours a week)
  • Duration: Fixed Term until 30th June 2026 (likely extension, but this is funding dependant)
  • Remuneration: $148K - $157K base depending on experience (+ 17% Superannuation and leave loading)
  • Work rights: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Candidates must hold full rights to work in Australia to be considered for this position.
  • Location: Health Translation Hub, UNSW, Randwick (some flexibility to WFH)

Sydney Partnership for Health, Education, Research and Enterprise (SPHERE)

Maridulu Budyari Gumal – the Sydney Partnership for Health, Education, Research and Enterprise (SPHERE) is an NHMRC accredited Advanced Health Research Translation Centre (AHRTC). Hosted by UNSW in partnership with 4 health partners (SWSLHD, SESLHD, St Vincents Health Network, and SCHN) and 10 other organisations (Universities and MRIs). SPHERE is dedicated to advancing health outcomes and healthcare through research translation and capacity building.

Why this role matters

The SPHERE Cancer Clinical Academic Group is supported by a Cancer Institute NSW Translational Research Capacity Building Grant. The Program Manager will play an integral role within the SPHERE Cancer Clinical Academic Group (CAG), based within the Faculty of Medicine and Health. The role is expected to provide oversight of the implementation and operations of a large externally funded grant (and other grants associated with the program), including personnel, development of strategic plans, financial management and executive support. The role reports to the Lead of the SPHERE Cancer CAG and has 2 direct reports.

Key skills required:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
  • Proven track record in research development, research administration and management and capacity building.
  • Excellent communication skills with an ability to relate and engage with other staff and students from all backgrounds.
  • High level organisational skills with proven ability to manage multiple tasks, establish priorities and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work collaboratively and bring people together from different areas/disciplines to participate in initiatives both locally and at the state level.
  • Demonstrated high level leadership and management skills, including proven ability to motivate staff and work effectively within a team.
  • Demonstrated skills and a solid understanding of budget development for funding applications, and ongoing management of funds.
