The Opportunity

We currently have an exciting Health Promotion Officer position (reporting to the Team Leader, Community Health Promotion) within our Social Planning and Wellbeing team.

You will be a proactive and self-motivated person with demonstrated understanding of health promotion and social equity principles and the ability to apply your knowledge in a rapidly growing and changing city.

You will apply your stakeholder engagement, planning and evaluation skills on prevention-focused health and wellbeing priorities, as outlined in the Council and Wellbeing plan, such as:

  • Promote gender equity and prevent gender-based violence
  • Healthier eating and food security
  • Mental health and wellbeing
  • Active living and physical activity
  • Community Safety.

In this role, you will build and maintain effective relationships across organisational and community stakeholders, and embed collaboration and inclusion applications, such as systems thinking, social justice, equity, community engagement, co-design and intersectionality principles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and evaluate initiatives which contribute to the Council and Wellbeing Plan 2025 – 2029, Equality and Respect 2030: A Strategy to prevent violence against women by promoting gender equity, and other relevant strategies and plans.
  • Work collaboratively with external stakeholders to develop and implement evidence-based, prevention-focused initiatives aimed at improving health and wellbeing.
  • Facilitate the revision of existing policies and procedures relating to portfolio areas.
  • Deliver internal capacity building sessions for Council staff to increase awareness and understanding of how to support the community in response to emerging health and social issues.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have the following:

  • Tertiary qualification in health promotion, public health, health sciences, community development, or related discipline with relevant experience in a similar role, or alternative lesser formal qualifications and substantial relevant experience.
  • Experience in planning, implementation, evaluation and supporting the sustainability of community health and wellbeing initiatives that are tailored to the specific needs of the local community.
  • Experience in successful planning, implementation and evaluation of health and wellbeing capacity building initiatives.
  • Must hold or be able to obtain an Employee Working with Children Check.
