Deliver high-quality simulation and clinical learning experiences within CDU’s Bachelor of Oral Health Therapy program

About the Position
As the Clinical Simulation Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting the delivery of high-quality simulation and clinical learning experiences within CDU’s Bachelor of Oral Health Therapy program.
As part of a place-based university committed to serving the Northern Territory, this role contributes to the preparation of culturally safe, community-responsive oral health professionals.

This role provides both technical and clinical assistance to ensure students can develop confidence and competence in oral health procedures within a safe, controlled learning environment. This includes preparing and maintaining simulation and clinical spaces, providing chairside assistance during student sessions, and ensuring compliance with infection control and WHS standards.
The Technician enhances student learning by demonstrating correct clinical procedures, reinforcing infection control protocols, and assisting with the development of practical skills.

About You
To be successful, you will require:

  • Certificate III or IV in Dental Assisting (or equivalent), with recent experience in chairside assistance and clinical dental practice.
  • Commitment to culturally safe practices, especially in First Nations health contexts.
  • Alignment with the program’s values of Adaptability, Cultural Safety, Equity, and Sustainability and a commitment to fostering a community-responsive learning environment.
  • Sound knowledge of current infection control protocols, WHS standards, and clinical safety procedures in dental settings with the ability to maintain a clean, safe, and compliant environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage inventory and equipment records.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with others in a team setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing managing and maintaining dental spaces for daily operations including equipment setup, calibration, and pack down, handling changeovers and managing environmental surfaces.
  • Experience in maintaining dental equipment including lubricating handpieces and reprocessing (cleaning and sterilizing) dental instruments.
  • Experience ordering and managing supplies of dental materials and instruments.
  • The ability to demonstrate and reinforce correct clinical techniques and infection control practices to students in simulation and clinical environments.
  • Proficiency in four-handed dentistry techniques and chairside assistance.
  • Ability to work with patient management software and spreadsheet software such as Excel.
  • Willingness to support student learning and skill development in a teaching context.

Desirable

  • Previous experience supporting dental simulation and clinical teaching activities
  • Previous experience supporting student learning and skill development in a teaching or training context.
  • Experience providing technical support for simulation-based learning activities, including the use of audio-visual or digital systems.

Remuneration
Appointment to this role will be at Professional Employee Level 5. The base salary will be in the range of $73,502 - $84,914 per annum. The total remuneration package will be in the range of $85,997 - $99,349 per annum, including 17% superannuation.
