About the Opportunity:
City of Darwin Libraries is seeking a Systems & Collections Assistant to support the efficient delivery and maintenance of high-quality library resources and services. This role is part of the Systems & Collections team and contributes to a welcoming, organised, and customer-focused environment across our library branches. You’ll work closely with the team to manage library collections, assist customers with technology, and support the smooth day-to-day operations that keep our libraries running effectively.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure Library customers are provided with a positive, proactive and responsive customer service experience.
Engage, support and connect library users with services, resources and activities.
Assist customers in the library with general enquiries and the use of technology.
Support customers in the use of self-serve technologies, computers, tablets and mobile devices, including social media and eBooks.
Explain procedures and regulations to library customers.
Unpack, receipt, and process new library resources to prepare them for borrowing.
Assist with collections maintenance activities, including weeding, cleaning, mending, and other tasks as directed to support the overall upkeep and quality of the library's collection.
Maintain order of library collections through shelving, sorting and shelf reading.
Handle difficult situations with empathy and care, using your de-escalation skills to maintain a safe and respectful space.
What You’ll Bring
Flexibility to work across multiple library locations, including weekends and some evenings
High level attention to detail and take pride in your work
Strong customer service skills and ability to work as part of a team
Confidence using technology and digital tools (e.g. iPads, smartphones, Microsoft Office Suite)
NT Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card)
Desirable
Previous customer service experience.
Previous experience in a library or similar environment.
Previous experience in covering books, programming RFID tags, and creating spine labels.
Class C Driver’s Licence
Pre-employment Requirement
Fitness for work (medical physical assessment)
