About us
We're on a mission to create a brighter future, where you can be a change maker for our customers, the environment and your community. We're one of Australia's largest water utilities with over 30% of Victoria's population relying on us for their essential water and sanitation services.
Our award-winning culture fosters an inclusive, collaborative, and flexible environment that enables our people to thrive. Here, you'll be inspired and challenged to grow alongside us.
We're committed to reconciliation and supporting the self-determined role for Traditional Owners/Custodians in water and land management.
The Role
The Water Operations Coordinator is a key leadership role supporting the Water Operations Manager in driving engagement, prioritisation, coordination, customer service, water quality, professional development and operational excellence. This role combines people and technical leadership to ensure safe, reliable and efficient operations across our drinking and non-drinking water networks while fostering a culture of collaboration, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
Your key responsibilities
- Act as a key support for the Water Operations Manager in fostering an inclusive and high-performing team culture.
- Perform line management duties for all field-based team members (i.e. 1-on-1 catch-ups, HR admin, task allocation and prioritisation, coaching and support).
- Team members include both Field Technicians (whose role is largely to manage network operational changes) and Customer Field Officers (who attend and resolve water quality and pressure complaints from our customers).
- Lead by example in promoting a people-based safety culture, encouraging open dialogue and proactive risk identification.
- Actively participate in capability building processes, providing constructive feedback, recognising achievements and embedding more formalised development mechanisms.
- Provide technical expertise to address complex operational challenges, including fault diagnosis and resolution (i.e. Technician support).
- Provide operational input into asset lifecycle activities, including risk assessments, commissioning, and design reviews (i.e. Technician support).
- Provide technical expertise to address water quality and pressure issues experienced by customers (i.e. Field Officer support).
- Identify and implement critical process improvements to enhance network performance and operational risk management.
- Maintain situational awareness of Water Operations resource utilisation and outage scheduling.
- Coordinate across the division to facilitate adaptable utilisation of resources.
- Oversight of scheduling and rostering of Customer Field Officers (with scheduling function assistance), the Network Duty Roster and Water Quality Advisor Roster.
- Assist with resource capacity planning and succession planning to align team skills with operational needs.
- Support compliance with OH&S, environmental, and quality management standards across all operations.
- Develop, review, and update operational documentation, including Safe Work Procedures (SWP) and risk assessments.
- Analyse performance trends to identify opportunities for improvement and implement corrective actions.
What we're looking for
- A pragmatic, outcomes-focused leader with experience leading and motivating technical teams.
- Proven ability to coach, develop, and manage the performance of professionals in operational environments.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills, with experience engaging key stakeholders including management, contractors, regulators, and community representatives.
- Advanced knowledge of drinking and non-drinking water networks, including the operation, maintenance, and management of water supply systems.
- A strong commitment to safety, with a thorough understanding of OH&S and Environmental legislation, and experience managing incidents and emergency responses.
- Relevant qualifications such as Certificate III or higher in Water Industry Operations (or similar) - highly desirable
- A flexible and adaptable professional who can work independently, handle multiple priorities, and remain calm in high-pressure situations.
