About the role

As a Medical Scientist in Chemical Pathology, you will be responsible for performing both routine and complex laboratory tests while contributing to the training and development of trainee scientists. Working in a specialised chemical pathology laboratory, you will prepare reagents, process biological specimens, maintain equipment, and monitor quality control data to ensure accuracy and reliability in test results.

In this role, you will also participate in after-hours service and general laboratory operations, while contributing to the laboratory’s quality management system and ongoing staff education. Your work will play a crucial part in delivering timely and accurate diagnostic information that supports clinicians in providing the highest standard of patient care.

About You

You will be a motivated and detail-oriented Medical Scientist with the technical skills and commitment required to deliver accurate, high-quality pathology services. With strong problem-solving abilities and a collaborative approach, you will contribute to the efficiency, reliability and excellence of laboratory operations.

Qualifications – A degree in pathology or a closely related field that meets NPAAC requirements (or equivalent overseas qualification), or an associate qualification conferred by the Australian Institute of Medical Technologists prior to 1 December 1973.

Skills and Attributes – Ability to follow laboratory procedures with accuracy, manage time effectively, work both independently and as part of a team, and demonstrate initiative in identifying and addressing potential issues.

Experience – General laboratory experience with analytical equipment, laboratory computing, data retrieval and processing.

Knowledge – Sound understanding of laboratory principles, science and practice, with knowledge of quality procedures and commitment to professional standards.
