In this role, you will use your analytical skills to interpret and integrate satellite data, digital spatial data and field information to map and monitor landscape attributes to inform comprehensive reporting about Queensland's landscape, particularly woody vegetation. You will specifically be involved in the mapping and monitoring of woody vegetation extent, clearing and regrowth as part of the Statewide Landcover and Trees Study. Statewide Landcover and Trees Study (SLATS) | Environment, land and water | Queensland Government.

The Scientist (Remote Sensing) is a role in which you will:

  • Contribute your GIS skills and remote sensing knowledge to a program of work that will generate and deliver high quality, scientifically defensible environmental mapping, and monitoring products.
  • Process, interpret and analyse remote sensing imagery and spatial data to identify, map and monitor woody vegetation change and/or other environmental change to support government programs, particularly the Statewide Landcover and Trees Study.
  • Contribute to the creation of innovative solutions and efficient processes associated with spatial information and image processing and analysis.
  • Participate in fieldwork and field data collection for the calibration and validation of remotely sensed imagery and derived mapping products.
  • Work independently and as a member of a team and contribute positively to the team's day to day operations, functioning and culture.
  • Represent DETSI in professional and scientific forums, and provide advice as required to stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the preparation of high-quality reports, publications, presentations, and project related documentation.
  • Support and utilise the governance policy and procedure, systems, activities, and processes within the work unit to fulfil all obligations under legislation including the Work Health and Safety Act 2012 and the Financial Accountability Act 2009.
  • Foster a workplace culture that supports and promotes the interests of First Nations people and actively engage through our work to contribute to better outcomes for First Nations people.
