About the role
This position is based in the Industrial Relations Branch within the Workforce Services Directorate which strives to continuously improve the Department’s industrial practices by:
Enabling management to respond to workplace issues in compliance with relevant workplace laws and industrial instruments.
Responding to industrial disputes, including matters before relevant courts and tribunals.
Managing the Department’s industrial instruments.
The primary roles of the Industrial Relations Advisor are to:
Provide advice to managers within the Department in relation to industrial matters.
Supports other members of the Industrial Relations Team in relation to the negotiation of industrial agreements and resolution of industrial dispute matters.
Specific Role Responsibilities:
Advising on an array of human resources and industrial relations matters including the application and interpretation of industrial awards, agreements, policies, and related legislation for occupational groups.
Investigating, reporting and advising on wide array of industrial relations issues to support the development and implementation of recommendations for their resolution.
Developing collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders such as employee organisations, other employee representatives and public sector agencies including Government Sector Labour Relations of the Department of Local Government Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety.
Coordinating and participating in meetings with employee organisations and other employee representatives.
Supporting workplace change processes and policies resulting from industrial relation decisions, orders, Government policy and legislation.
Other duties as required in accordance with strategic objectives, business plans, local workload priorities and performance management plans.
Applicants should have proven experience in providing industrial relations advice, practical knowledge of public sector processes and accountabilities, and well-developed communication and interpersonal skills.
