The Organisation
An exciting opportunity exists to work for one of Southwest Queensland's most dynamic and responsive community organisations. Lifeline Darling Downs and Southwest Queensland Limited (LDDSWQL) has been serving the community of Toowoomba, and the wider South Western Queensland area for 50 years. We are currently seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual for the role of Emergency Relief and Financial Capability Coordinator.
About the Role
Delivering short-term crisis support and capacity-building assistance to individuals and families experiencing financial hardship. The role operates within the Commonwealth Financial Capability Framework and the Emergency Relief Guidelines, combining immediate relief with education and linkage to appropriate ongoing supports. The role is evenly divided between delivery of Emergency Relief (ER), and providing financial literacy, wellbeing, and referral support to strengthen clients’ long-term financial capability and resilience.
Key Responsibilities
This role is responsible for coordinating and delivering holistic financial wellbeing and emergency relief support to individuals and families experiencing financial hardship. Working within a trauma-informed, client-centred, and culturally safe framework, the position provides practical assistance, builds financial capability, and connects clients with broader community and support services.
Through strong partnerships with local agencies, government, and community organisations, the role enhances referral pathways and promotes access to resources that foster resilience and sustainable change. The position also contributes to program evaluation, compliance, and continuous improvement processes, ensuring services are delivered effectively, ethically, and in line with organisational and funding requirements.
Key Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated experience providing direct client support, preferably in financial wellbeing, community services, or crisis support contexts.
- Knowledge of the Commonwealth Financial Capability Framework, or similar financial literacy and resilience-building models.
- Understanding of the social determinants of financial hardship and the intersection with mental health and wellbeing.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage clients respectfully and build trust.
- Experience in assessment, referral, and case coordination in community settings.
- Proficiency in record-keeping, reporting, and digital case management systems
- Current driver’s licence and ability to travel across regional and remote communities as required.
- Current Working with Children Check (or ability to obtain) and National Police Check.
- Current Queensland “C” class drivers’ licence
Desirable:
- Qualifications in Community Services, Financial Capability, Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, or related fields.
- Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander communities or people from culturally and linguistically diverse background.
- Familiarity with Emergency Relief and financial wellbeing funding requirements or reporting processes.
