About the role

As a Soils Officer you will support the High Soil Carbon Landscapes (HSCL) Project by conducting fieldwork, soil analysis and data management to help assess and improve soil carbon levels across Tasmanian landscapes.

  • Coordinate field trips and liaise with farmers for site access and data-sharing agreements.
  • Undertake fieldwork including site identification, soil description, sampling and characterisation.
  • Enter and manage land resource data in databases and spreadsheets.
  • Classify soils and process information using relevant Australian Standards.

Our ideal candidate has

  • Highly developed knowledge in soil science and demonstrated expertise in conducting fieldwork for soil surveys, sampling and working in rural landscapes.
  • Strong communication skills to liaise effectively with farmers and stakeholders.
  • Technical proficiency in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping, data entry and using soil classification standards.
  • Experience planning field trips, managing logistics and maintaining equipment and accurate records.
  • A background in soil science, environmental science, agriculture, or related discipline.
  • A current driver’s licence.
