Audit Tasmania is seeking a highly skilled and forward-thinking Reporting & Insights Analyst to play a critical role in enhancing the impact of financial and performance audits, Auditor-General reports and internal performance management.

Hours per fortnight

73.50 hours per fortnight - flexible options available.

Key Duties

In the context of assigned work (which would generally be of a higher risk and less complex or of a moderate risk nature):

  1. Design and deliver reporting and insights solutions using tools such as Power BI and related technologies to support internal analysis, external reporting, and organisational performance.
  2. Partner with audit teams by advising on effective approaches to structuring and presenting financial and performance data, enhancing audit findings, judgements, and communication, and contributing to efficiency improvements in the audit process.
  3. Partner with and guide the leadership team to implement reporting approaches that ensure information is accurate, accessible, and aligned with contemporary public sector standards.
  4. Partner with corporate services to integrate and consolidate organisational reporting, ensuring accuracy, consistency, usability, and driving efficiency improvements.
  5. Provide advice, training, and feedback to auditors and staff on interpreting data, using reporting tools effectively, drawing insights, and presenting information in ways that support audit quality and organisational performance.
  6. Develop and maintain robust data models, dashboards, and reports that deliver meaningful insights within agreed timeframes and budgets.
  7. Analyse complex datasets and communicate insights clearly to diverse audiences to inform decision-making and identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
  8. Build and facilitate networks with reporting and BI professionals across audit jurisdictions and government agencies to share knowledge and contemporary practices.
  9. Mentor staff and lead initiatives to strengthen organisational reporting and insights capability, including building dashboard literacy, embedding best practice approaches, and driving efficiency improvements.
  10. The occupant of this position can expect to be allocated duties, not specifically mentioned in this document, that are within the capacity, qualifications and experience normally expected from persons occupying positions at this classification level.

Performance is measured against Key Performance Indicators that are developed and agreed to for each role in the Office and documented in annual Performance Plans.

Pre-employment Checks

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this position is to satisfy a pre-employment check before taking up the appointment, promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

  1. Conviction checks in the following; Arson and fire setting; Violent crimes and crimes against the person; Sex-related offences; Drug and alcohol related offences; Crimes involving dishonesty; Crimes involving deception; Making false declarations; Malicious damage and destruction to property; Serious traffic offences; Crimes against public order or relating to the Administration of Law and Justice; Crimes against Executive or the Legislative Power; Crimes involving Conspiracy.
  2. Disciplinary action in previous employment check.
  3. Identification check.
Desirable Requirements
  • A tertiary qualification in business, finance, statistics, data analytics, computer science or another relevant discipline.
  • 3+ years’ experience in business intelligence, reporting, or related roles.
  • Expert-level skills in Power BI, with the ability to conceptualise, design and deliver impactful reports and dashboards.
  • Strong capability in complementary reporting and analysis systems.
  • Experience uplifting reporting and analytical capability across teams and organisations.
  • Current driver’s licence.
