The Opportunity
On 1 February 2025, a new era for racing in Tasmania began when the newly established Tasracing Integrity Unit (TIU) assumed responsibility for Racing Integrity across the State. An exciting opportunity is now available for an experienced Traceability Officer and Analyst to join the TIU’s Investigations & Animal Welfare Unit. The Traceability Officer and Analyst is responsible for tracking, recording, and ensuring accountability and compliance for the Tasracing Integrity Unit.

Key Responsibilities
Maintain accurate records of all greyhounds involved in the industry: birth, ownership, training, racing history, injuries, and retirement status.
Ensure every greyhound is microchipped and traceable throughout its lifecycle.
Track the transition of greyhounds from racing to retirement or rehoming.
Flag any irregularities in transfers, sales, or euthanasia to prevent welfare breaches.
Collaborate with the Greyhound Adoption Program (GAP) to verify successful adoptions and post-racing care.
Audit kennels, training facilities, and veterinary records to ensure humane treatment.
Report non-compliance to regulatory bodies and support enforcement actions.
Work closely with integrity commissioners and the Animal Welfare team.
Provide data and reporting to support the drafting of shutdown legislation.
Assist in the development of traceability protocols for the transition agency overseeing the shutdown.
Ensure traceability systems align with new legal frameworks and timelines.
Deliver regular reports to government, oversight committees, and the public on greyhound status and welfare outcomes.
Maintain secure and accessible databases for all stakeholders involved in the shutdown.
Identify risks such as illegal racing, abandonment, or unregistered transfers.
Implement safeguards to prevent greyhounds from falling through the cracks during the wind-down.
About You
To excel in this role, you’ll need:
Basic to intermediate administration skills (data entry, record keeping, document management).
Experience using databases or record management systems – able to accurately input and retrieve information.
Strong attention to detail to avoid errors in dog traceability records.
Basic reporting skills – able to run and check reports for accuracy.
Good verbal and written communication to liaise with trainers, owners, rehoming groups, and internal staff.
Ability to handle sensitive conversations with empathy (e.g., rehoming discussions).
Ability to identify discrepancies in records (e.g., a dog unaccounted for) and escalate appropriately.
Basic analytical skills to reconcile data and spot gaps.
Organised and methodical – able to manage multiple records and follow up consistently.
Integrity and confidentiality – trusted to handle sensitive data and welfare information.
Team player – working within a broader shutdown project team.
Completion of Year 12 (or equivalent) – certificate or diploma in business administration / animal studies / data management desirable but not essential.
Previous experience (1–2 years) in administration, compliance support, or record-keeping roles.
Experience in an animal-related sector would be a bonus, but not mandatory.
