The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Review Officer to provide a critical role at/within Compliance and Reviews System Performance Branch
About the Business Unit
The System Performance Branch in Custodial Operations comprises three teams, which are: Operational Assurance, Compliance and Reviews; Continuous Improvement; and Statewide Operational Support. The branch provides authoritative, strategic, operational and policy advice, and briefing papers on a range of correctional issues to senior correctional management and is responsible for a range of work primarily across prisons. Its responsibilities include state-wide oversight of A Safer Places to Work, a range of central functions, including operational policy development, review and amendment, convening and participating in state-wide managers' meetings, performance monitoring and reporting, incident reporting, responding to family violence information sharing requests, oversight of internal and external reviews and investigations, coordination of Corrections Victoria's responses to coronial matters and litigation, auditing, correspondence, prison outreach and implementation support and general advice to prisons and other departmental staff and internal and external stakeholders.
About the Role
The Reviews Officer reports to the Senior Review Officer and will assist in a range of complex reviews and investigations across the prison system. In addition, in this role, you will coordinate and lead a range of other works and projects to support the System Performance Branch and prisons, including (but not limited to) the nicotine replacement therapy program, the annual prisoner pay review, allocated correspondence.
Some of your duties will include:
- Manage the nicotine replacement therapy program. This involves managing the contract for the supply of goods; budget and invoice management; regular liaison with prison staff to ensure supplies are maintained; liaison with external suppliers; ensuring supporting policies are updated and maintained.
- Conducting the annual prisoner pay review and preparing the brief for the Secretary of the Department.
- Support the Senior Review Officer in managing prison-related reviews and investigations. This includes tracking the implementation of review recommendations, participating in reviews, preparing responses to senior department staff and key stakeholders; preparing the monthly restitution report, analysing data to identify emerging issues and trends, and conducting audits to better understand operational performance.

Qualifications/requirements
- There are no mandatory qualifications for this role; however a tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline would be highly desirable.
