About the roles
The Policy and Research Officer play a key role in advancing NSW Government commitments to NSW Aboriginal Languages by conducting evidence-based research, developing policy advice, and supporting strategic projects that promote NSW Aboriginal Languages. This role will get the opportunity to help deliver strategic policy initiatives and the Aboriginal Languages Trust multi-year research agenda and involves stakeholder engagement, project management, and applying principles of community-led research and Indigenous Data Sovereignty to ensure culturally informed and impactful outcomes.

The Policy Officer, Closing the Gap plays a key role in advancing NSW Government commitments under Closing the Gap by contributing to the development, implementation and delivery of a range of projects, policy initiatives and reforms that support NSW Government's commitments to Target 16 of Closing the Gap. The role works within a small project team to develop, deliver, monitor, report and evaluate a portfolio of strategic and governance projects.

About the team
You will join the Aboriginal Languages Trust branch in the Premiers Department. The Aboriginal Languages Trust is an agency committed to promoting, nurturing and growing Aboriginal languages across NSW. We work in genuine partnership with Aboriginal communities, the Trust Board and government to deliver long-term, strategic outcomes in language revitalisation.
We're Looking For
- Strong policy research and analysis skills Ability to investigate complex policy issues, identify emerging trends, and develop evidence-based recommendations to inform decision-making and mitigate risks. Understanding the application of ethical research principles that respect Aboriginal knowledge systems and promote self-determination.
- Strategic policy development and advisory expertise Experience providing clear, actionable policy advice to stakeholders, supporting government initiatives and strategic commitments.
- Stakeholder engagement and relationship management Proven ability to consult and collaborate with diverse stakeholders to co-design policy solutions and ensure inclusive, community-led approaches.
- Project and program management capabilities Skilled in managing projects from planning to evaluation, including milestone tracking, brief preparation, and coordination of research and governance activities.
- High-level written communication Competence in preparing reports, briefs, and committee papers that meet quality standards and effectively communicate policy positions.
