The Foundation for the WA Museum (FWAM) role is to cultivate and develop relationships with individuals, organisations and community groups who understand the critical role that museums play in society. We work to enhance the cultural and social impact of stakeholder support and the long-term financial sustainability of the WA Museum to ensure the greatest impact for generations to come.
We are seeking a visionary and purpose-driven leader to join our executive team as General Manager Communications and Engagement. This pivotal role will shape our strategic direction, strengthen stakeholder relationships, and ensure the Foundation’s voice is compelling, trusted, and impactful. Reporting directly to the CEO, the General Manager Communications & Engagement provides both strategic and operational leadership across the organisation. This role combines executive leadership responsibilities with hands-on delivery across brand, communications, media, engagement, and fundraising campaigns. You will lead a skilled Communications and Engagement team, support the CEO, and work closely with the WA Museum and partners to amplify our impact.
Key Responsibilities:
Brand & Marketing – Ensure the Foundation’s brand is clear, consistent, and compelling across all channels.
Strategic Communications – Lead the development and execution of marketing and communications plans that align with the Foundation’s goals.
Media & Public Profile – Build the Foundation’s reputation and reach through strategic media engagement and representation.
Stakeholder Engagement – Cultivate and maintain strong donor, partner, and community relationships to enhance advocacy, trust, and support.
Fundraising Campaigns – Design and deliver campaigns and activities to increase engagement, awareness and one-off or occasional donations.
Leadership & Team Development – Lead a high-performing team, embedding a positive and collaborative culture with clear KPI’s and coaching.
Financial & Operational Accountability – Manage communications budgets, ensure donor data and campaigns are captured in CRM systems, and apply structured project management approaches.
About You:
We are seeking a strategic thinker and influential leader who can balance vision with delivery. You will bring:
Tertiary qualifications in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Business, Management, Non-profit Management, or a related field
Minimum 7+ years of proven track record in organisational leadership, communications strategy, and measurable impact delivery.
Demonstrated experience in media relations and issues management to build organisational reputation.
Strong understanding of governance and experience supporting a CEO and Board.
High-level communications and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to inspire confidence and trust.
Experience in revenue generation, digital communications, social media strategy, multi-platform content delivery, including campaigns, donor relationships, and corporate partnerships.
Strong financial and project management skills, with demonstrated ability to meet budgets and deadlines.
Australian citizenship, permanent residency, or valid work visa required.
This is a great opportunity to join a friendly, inclusive, and driven team, committed to making a difference. We have a strong focus on employee well-being and professional growth and development. We have created a safe and supportive environment for employees to enjoy, and we encourage the sharing of ideas and information.
At the Foundation we pride ourselves on teamwork and our relationship with our staff, the WA Museum, our partners, and supporters.
So, if you bring demonstrated leadership in communications, marketing, and stakeholder engagement, a track record of strengthening brand identity and awareness, and the capability to deliver compelling, high-impact messaging across multiple platforms, we encourage you to apply.
